Groupwork Skills

2 day workshop

This workshop is intended for professionals who work with groups who wish to further their understanding of groups, increase awareness of the potential of groupwork and begin to understand their own processes as group members and group facilitators.

The workshop is participatory and experiential and provides and opportunity to relate theory to practice. It teaches groupwork through structured exercises and examines the group process through the experience of the participants.

Course Aims:

  • Provide a basic understanding of several models of group processes and group dynamics.
  • Explore your own processes and behaviour in the group.
  • Provide an opportunity to explore and experience some key ways of working in groups.
  • Examine the different roles people take in groups.
  • Explore ways of creating safety and trust in groups.

By the end of the course you can expect to:

  • Have a basic understanding of several models of group processes and how they apply to your work situation.
  • Have a better understanding of your behaviour in groups.
  • Have learned and experienced several different leadership styles.
  • Have gained an awareness of the different roles people take in groups.
  • Have gained an awareness of boundary issues in groups.
