Solution Focused Brief Therapy

The unique feature of Solution Focused Therapy is that it focuses on solutions, not problems. It aims to help clients achieve their preferred outcomes by evoking solutions to their problems. Another important feature is the potential brief nature of the approach. The course is intended for professionals who work with clients both formally and informally where brief solution focused interventions may be useful.

Course Aims:

  • To introduce the clinical and philosophical foundations of Solution Focused therapy.
  • To introduce the principles that guide solution focused work.
  • To introduce and practise the first session including: forming relationship; assessment; contracting; clarifying goals and negotiating tasks.
  • To introduce and practise the second session and beyond including: consolidating constructive change; constructing solutions; developing new strategies and evaluating and planning the ending.
  • Examine solution focused principles and techniques in relation to participants’ work.

By the end of the course you can expect to:

  • Understand the foundations and principles of Brief Solution Focused Therapy.
  • Demonstrate conducting the first session.
  • Demonstrate conducting the second session and beyond.
  • Apply brief Solution Focused principles and skills to your work.
  • Gain in self awareness.
